Reading Victorian power costs before you buy a miner

Crypto mining education at Appgroveway starts with the bill you already receive, not the hashrate chart on a product page. This note mirrors the morning exercise from Mining Fundamentals.

Find the right line on the tariff

Locate the usage rate that applies to daytime and overnight periods if your plan is time-of-use. Ignore promotional headline rates that only apply to the first block of kilowatt-hours; miners often push you into higher bands.

Convert watts to daily cost

Multiply device wattage by 24, divide by 1000 for kilowatt-hours, then multiply by your usage rate. Add a ten percent buffer for PSU inefficiency and dust-related fan ramp-ups that appear after the first week.

Compare against other household loads

Put the mining figure beside summer cooling or a second fridge. If the miner alone rivals those loads, revisit whether your shed circuit and monthly budget can absorb it year-round.

Bring the bill to class

Workshop learners who arrive with a photo of their tariff page finish the decision sheet faster. If you want help interpreting a complex plan, book a Home Rig Consultation after reading this guide.
